Heart of America Game Breeders’ Association was founded in 1985 by a group of breeders who saw the need for an organization for the game breeders in Missouri and Kansas. Today, HOAGBA membership includes breeders in over 20 states. HOAGBA has cooperated and worked with the Kansas Wildlife and Parks and the Kansas Animal Health Department to promote the well-being of birds and animals kept in captivity. The organization strives to provide information to its membership and the general public about maintaining birds and animals for enjoyment, species preservation, and profit.
Since 1985, Heart of America Game Breeders Association, commonly referred to HOAGBA, has sponsored bird and animals auctions in March and September. Those auctions are currently being held at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Gardner, Kansas.
to preserve and propagate all varieties of game, ornamental, and caged birds and animals, especially endangered species.
to assist breeders in securing species for breeding purposes and to assist breeders in finding markets for selling surplus species.
to dispense information of general interest to breeders through a club newsletter.
to create new markets through education of the public.
to protect the buying public from unscrupulous dealers and breeders
to hold meetings for the education of the membership.
The 8-page newsletter “Heartland News” is mailed out 6 times a year (January-February, March-April, May-June, July-August, September-October, & November-December). Almost every issue also includes a color photo insert. Not only does the newsletter list swaps and auctions and birds and animals for sale, but it also contains feature articles, helpful hints, and other information pertinent to people interested in birds and animals. With shipping problems, pending legislation on the national level, and other problems facing game and bird breeders, belonging to an association is a way for you to network and keep in touch with other people with similar interests and concerns. See a link at the bottom of the page to download a sample newsletter.
Members may run free ads of up to 50 words each month if they choose to do so. As a member you can be listed in the Membership Directory which is revised every 2 years. Your membership also entitles you to sell for 15% commission at the club auctions.
